Frequently Asked Questions

Having fitted thousands of children for new uniform items over the years, we know that for some parents, the whole process can be a little bit daunting! With COVID-19 restricting how we are able to offer uniform fittings this year, this unease may be exacerbated. To help alleviate some of this concern we have documented  the most common questions we have been asked over the years. How should I purchase uniform for my son/daughter?

Please book your fitting appointment online. Appointments are strictly 1.5h and we kindly ask for only one person to accompany the pupil

If you can't attend the fitting:

  • You can place your order online and collect directly from the School Shop.

Please email the Shop so we can arrange the time. Please note that your order will not be available for collection until you receive confirmation from the Shop.

  • We can deliver items directly to the Boarding House

The School Shop will name tape the items in your order (at an extra cost) and deliver directly to the Boarding House, ready for the start of term. We will assist your child with any exchanges should they be required.

  • If you live in the UK, we can send your items to you

The cost of delivery will be calculated at the time of shipping. Please ensure that you place your order early if you would like items shipped to you to avoid items arriving after the start of term.

If you would like items mailed to you, please email schoolshop@sherborne.org after completing your order to advise us.

We strongly advise against walk in purchases, as priority will be given to those parents with appointments. Because of the capacity limits, you may be asked to wait until the shop is clear.

How do I use the online shop?

The Sherborne online shop works in a similar way to any other online store. Simply visit the appropriate collection (eg Sherborne School if you are a pupil at Sherborne School) and add the relevant items to your basket. Once you have added all the items you need, you can check out.

How do I know what items I need to purchase?

You will have a uniform list with the paperwork you received as part of your child’s placement. If you don’t have this information to hand, don’t worry, we have provided links to the various uniform guides from our main page. If you need to buy all of the items from the uniform list, you may find it easier to download and print this information before you start shopping, so that you can use the lists as a reference. We have tried to order the items in the same order they show on the uniform lists to assist you.

How do I know what size to order?

We have provided a measurement guide on the shop home page. If you need further assistance please contact a member of our shop team and they will be happy to help. Once you have your child’s measurements, you can use the sizing charts that are displayed on the relevant product page to make sure you are choosing the right size.  

How do I pay for an item?

Once you have finished shopping you can view all of the items in your cart by selecting the Cart option. Review the items and quantities carefully and make any adjustments as necessary. Before you select Check Out, there is a space to enter your child’s name and boarding house. It helps the shop to identify who the item(s) are for if you do this. Payments can be made via Visa, Mastercard, Amex and Maestro. 

What happens once I have placed an order?

Once an order has been placed, a member of our shop team will receive a notification to review and confirm your order.  Generally this will happen within 24 hours of an order being placed, but during particularly busy periods, or following the weekend, this may take slightly longer. Once an order has been reviewed by the shop team, a notification will be sent to the email address used to complete the order that it has been fulfilled. If there are any issues or queries the shop team will initiate a contact with whoever placed the order.

What do I do about name taping my items?

For pupils of Sherborne School 

Any item brought from the school shop ahead of the start of the new school year (September 2022) can be name taped by shop staff, unless you specifically request to collect the items and do this yourself. Parents will need to apply their own name tape for items purchased away from the school shop.

For pupils at the Prep School

We would anticipate most parents will collect items purchased from the shop directly and apply their own name tapes to garments. If you would like the shop to apply name tapes for you, please let us know via one of the published contact methods and we will happily assist.

What do I do if uniform items don’t fit, or I purchase the wrong item?

Although we have provided sizing information for most of our items, inevitably there will be a need to exchange or return items that don’t fit, or that have been purchased incorrectly.

When receiving an item you will find the pricing label will still be attached – please try to leave this on the garment until you have confirmed that the item(s) fit correctly.

If an item is the wrong size it can be exchanged in the shop. School staff are aware that many items this year will have been brought online and will be encouraging pupils to return ill fitting items to the shop. Shop staff will then help the pupil choose the right size garment.

Items collected from the shop can also be returned by a parent/guardian if they visit during the shops published opening hours. Simply bring the item(s) and the order acceptance email and your exchange/return can be processed. If you are returning multiple items, it would be best to notify the shop in advance so they can prepare for your arrival.

If a refund is required, money will be returned to the card that was used to purchase the item only.

This all sounds quite confusing!?

Don’t panic! Although uniform fittings cannot be conducted in the same way this year, our staff are still available to support you as much as possible; even if this will mostly be at a distance! If you have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to get in contact with our shop team and they will do their best to assist you.

Can I buy uniform items elsewhere?

Clothing items with school logo’s can only be purchased via the school shop; however, other items can be sourced from alternative locations if you prefer (for example, parents will often purchase socks and white shirts independently). Shop staff will not be able to offer name taping on items brought elsewhere. Uniform items not listed on the online shop will not be available to purchase in store (eg trainers, school shoes or similar).

Although school bags do contain a school logo, it is possible to purchase non branded equivalents elsewhere – providing they meet the definitions outlined by the school (eg plain, black etc).

Do you sell unusual sizes?

Over the years we have seen students of all shapes and sizes, and so in most instances we will be able to cater for all pupils. Please check our size guides as a reference. In some instances we may need to substitute for the next size up/down if an item is out of stock – especially with made to order uniform where lead times can be several months for re-stocking.

Can I buy stationery and sports equipment online?

Currently, only core uniform items are available to purchase online; sports equipment and stationery items are still available to purchase in the shop.

What are your opening hours?

The shop is currently open from 9am until 5pm, Monday-Friday, although online purchases can be made 24/7. 

Are the School Laptop purchases covered by insurance if they are lost or broken?

Personal laptops, including Surface Pro's purchased from the School will not be covered by any School insurance policy and so parents should look at available insurance policies from an external provider (the Shop is not able to recommend a preferred provider).
